I’ve long kept my eye on the Skin Selection addon, by the makers of Auto-Rig Pro. It’s always seemd like a fun way to interact with your rig. Turns out, in the time it took me to actually decide to check it out, the folks over at the Blender Studio have been working on a native solution - Mesh Gizmos. Let’s take the prototype for a ride.
Setup
Setting up is very simple, a new panel below Custom Shapes allows you to link bones with face maps.

Tension map
Setting up a simple version of a tension map with geometry nodes is equally straightforward; just compare the face area before and after deformation.
